Capítulo Perfeito postpones Mozambique event, staying true to its search for perfect barrels

Cascais, May 4, 2026 – The Capitulo Perfeito event in Mozambique, originally scheduled  to run between January 12 and March 30, 2026, with an extended waiting period until  April 30, has been postponed to 2027. 

Despite extending the waiting period, surf conditions at Praia da Barra never lined up in a  way that met the event’s benchmark standards — built around the search for flawless  barreling waves. Staying true to its premisse that “Without perfect waves, there is no Capitulo Perfeito,” the organization has decided to postpone this year’s edition. 

Rui Costa, founder of Capitulo Perfeito, said: “Unfortunately, we didn’t get a single day in  Mozambique that was worthy of Capitulo Perfeito. The beauty of this event lies in its  dependence on nature — and this time, nature didn’t cooperate. That said, we’re stoked  to confirm that the event will return in 2027 with renewed support from the Mozambican  government and our partners. We remain committed to showcasing the world-class  waves Mozambique has to offer, while also giving local surfers the chance to watch some  of the best tube riders on the planet surf perfect barrels at their home break.” 

This decision was made in close coordination with the Government of Mozambique,  which continues to back the project institutionally, as well as with event partners —  Corona, Sentidos Beach Retreat and Hype Energy — all of whom have reaffirmed their  commitment to the event’s long-term future and quality. 

The €10,000 prize purse by Cascais for the event winner also remains in place. 

Isabel Matias, Head Manager of Sentidos Beach Retreat, added: “We fully support the  organization’s decision. We understand that an event like this depends on very specific  conditions, and it’s essential to maintain the highest standards of quality and safety.  Postponing to 2027 shows responsibility and a genuine commitment to the level of  excellence that defines this event. We remain fully committed to supporting Capitulo  Perfeito and look forward to seeing this iconic event run at Praia da Barra next year.” 

Local wildcard Mini Junior said: “Capitulo Perfeito at Praia da Barra is an exciting event  that deserves to run in the kind of magic conditions Mozambique has the potential to  deliver. Postponing the event was the right call. As a proud local, I want the waves to be  world-class so we can show the world what this place is capable of. It’s been a tough  year for swell, but we’re staying positive and hopeful for 2027. The wait will be worth it!” 

Global wildcard Ned Hart added: “Postponing the event is definitely the right move, as  we still haven’t seen the perfect conditions needed to run it. Personally, I think it makes 

the event even more special because we’re waiting for the best possible day so everyone  can surf at 100%. I can’t wait for that moment. When everything lines up, it’s going to be  epic.” 

More than just a postponement, this is a strategic decision aimed at protecting the  identity of Capitulo Perfeito, ensuring world-class conditions for the event and  strengthening the project’s international positioning — while spotlighting Mozambique as  a premier destination for heavy barrels.
