Capitulo Perfeito powered by Billabong ON for Sunday

CASCAIS (February 15, 2024) – The 10th annual Capitulo Perfeito powered by Billabong, the original one-day, invite-only tube riding competition taking place in Portugal every year, just got green-lit for Sunday, February 18th. 

A healthy dose of Atlantic Ocean swell will see the mythical wave at Carcavelos Beach roar to life, setting up the much-anticipated scenario for the 16 invitees – a mix of celebrated tube hounds and former CT warriors – to be called to action, pushing the limits of how deep a human can surf inside the barrel. Powerful 8ft sets combined with light offshore winds are expected to storm across the heavy sand-bottom surf break located 20 kms from Lisbon, just the kind of conditions the event is internationally known for.

The competition will have a 7 am first official call with Anthony Walsh (AUS), Aritz Aranburu (SP), Balaram Stack (USA), Bruno Santos (BRA), Dylan Graves (PR), Francisca Veselko (PRT), João Maria Mendonça (PRT), Michael February (ZA), Nathan Florence (HAW), Nic von Rupp (PRT), Pedro Boonman (PRT), Rob Machado (USA), Salvador Vala (PRT), Tiago Pires (PRT), Tiago Stock (PRT) and William Aliotti (FRA) in the heat draw.

Scored solely upon their tube riding skills, the 16 men will be chasing a 40.000 EUR global prize money plus a handful of performance prizes: Best Tube by 58SURF (2500 EUR), Best Score by Go Chill (2000 EUR) and Worst Wipeout by Nixon (500 EUR). In addition, the Ricardo dos Santos Special Trophy is honoring the most committed contender according to tube riding virtuosity and raw courage criteria, on top of a 2000 EUR check by Corona.

The winner will also be taking home a special Capitulo Perfeito X edition of the 51-30 Chrono Watch from Nixon, together with an exclusive custom surfboard ecologically made by Polen Surfboards. This board was built with a Polyola blank made from 80% recycled polyol, being 100% recyclable. In addition, it was glassed using Flax Fiber, a natural fiber known for its durability, and RESINA-Sicomin Surf Clear EVO, a UV-resistant epoxy resin based of biological materials.

As a side event to the main competition, a special heat is scheduled to take place between the semis and the final featuring the six Portuguese young surfers from the New Generation category (U-18): Jaime Veselko, Martim Fortes, Matias Canhoto, Salvador Catarino, Salvador Vala and Simão Prazeres. The winner is taking home a 1000€ check by cidade_fm (event media partner), a 500€ travel voucher by Globalis and a 7 day double-stay at the Hiddenbay Resort in the Mentawai islands.
