Capitulo Perfeito confirms Makana Pang as final global wildcard for Desert Point 

Indonesia, September 5, 2026 – Capitulo Perfeito has confirmed Hawaiian surfer Makana Pang as the second and final global wildcard for the Desert Point event, closing the eight-surfer draw. This will be the first time a surf event takes place at the famous Lombok reef, with a waiting period between September 1 and 15. At stake is a wildcard with direct entry into Capitulo Perfeito 2027 in Carcavelos. 

“I am honoured and grateful to be the final pick in the event. This will be my first Capitulo Perfeito and for it to be at a wave like this is such a blessing. Desert Point is one of those waves that is so perfect it doesn’t even seem real every time you hit in the water, so getting the first chance to surf it in a heat with just the other surfers is going to be insane. Let’s get barreled!”, says Pang. 

“Makana grew up surfing one of the most demanding waves in the world. What he does at Pipeline speaks for itself. He’s coming to a wave he probably doesn’t know as well as the other surfers, but he brings with him the North Shore experience and many hours surfing Hawaiian barrels. He rounds out a diverse line-up — eight experienced tube riders, each with his own very particular approach to the Desert Point wave. That’s exactly what we want to see,” says Rui Costa, founder of Capitulo Perfeito. 

Event format & Line-up 

The Indonesian event runs with eight surfers: 

• The top four finishers from the 2025 Carcavelos edition — Cam Richards, Balaram Stack, Pedro Calado and Nic von Rupp (the latter replacing Noah Beschen, who is unable to travel to Lombok due to professional commitments) 

• 2 local wildcards — Sulaiman and Usman Trioko 

• 2 global wildcards — Bruno Santos and Makana Pang 

The event will open with a Local Heat featuring eight surfers from Lombok: Awan, Hendra, Rusdi, Fajrul, Ilham, Budi, Darmawan and Ziggy. The main event will then run over three stages. Round 1 and Round 2 are both non-elimination: the eight invitees are drawn into two heats of four, and every surfer takes part in both rounds regardless of their result in the first. The four highest-scoring surfers advance directly to the Final. All heats run for 45 minutes. 

With the draw closed, the rules of the game remain: one day of surfing, scored barrels only, and a guaranteed spot in Carcavelos in 2027.
