Capitulo Perfeito Confirms Bruno Santos as First Global Wildcard for Desert Point 

Indonesia, September 2, 2026 – Capitulo Perfeito has confirmed Bruno Santos as the first of two global wildcards for its Indonesian edition — the first surf event ever held at Desert Point, Lombok. The waiting period runs from September 1 to 15, with a wildcard into the 2027 Capitulo Perfeito at Carcavelos on the line. 

Santos arrives at Lombok on familiar ground: he spends part of the year living in Indonesia, and Desert Point is a wave he knows in all its moods, not one he visits on a strike mission. That accumulated knowledge of the reef, and of when the wave is worth committing to, makes him a natural fit for a format where only barrels count. 

“This is a huge honour. Being one of only two global wildcards invited to this event makes it even more special. There’s a lot of anticipation because this is new ground and because, ever since the event was announced, a lot of people have been dreaming about this spot and chasing this opportunity. I have a deep attachment to Desert Point — I’ve given a big part of my life to that wave and I know the conditions there well. I can’t wait, and above all I’m just very happy to be living this,” says Bruno Santos. 

“Bruno Santos is one of the best left-hand tube riders in the world, and he is probably the surfer with the most hours of barrel time at Desert Point. He won the Capitulo Perfeito in 2015 and he has followed the event through every stage of its evolution. For us it was the logical call. Every year he leaves Indonesia to come and surf the cold barrels of Carcavelos. Now we will give him the chance to do it in the place he has devoted more of his life to than anywhere else. He will be a serious threat out there, and that only makes it more exciting. Delivering that excitement is our biggest commitment to the surfers and to the people who follow us,” says Rui Costa, founder of Capitulo Perfeito. 

The Desert Point field 

The Indonesian event runs with eight surfers: 

• The top 4 finishers from the 2025 Carcavelos edition — Cam Richards, Balaram Stack, Pedro Calado and Nic von Rupp (the latter replacing Noah Beschen, who is unable to travel to Lombok due to professional commitments) 

• 2 local wildcards — Sulaiman and Usman Trioko 

• 2 global wildcards — Bruno Santos and one still to be announced 

 

The event keeps the format that defines Capitulo Perfeito: tube-only scoring, one single day, and a call given with 72 hours’ notice, activated only when the ocean delivers. The event will open with a Local Heat featuring eight surfers from Lombok: Awan, Hendra, Rusdi, Fajrul, Ilham, Budi, Darmawan and Ziggy. 

The main event will then run over three stages. Round 1 and Round 2 are both non-elimination: the eight invitees are drawn into two heats of four, and every surfer takes part in both rounds regardless of their result in the first. The four highest-scoring surfers advance directly to the Final. All heats run for 45 minutes. 

One global wildcard remains to be announced. Beyond that: eight surfers, a 15-day window, and a wave that gives nothing away easily — the first time Capitulo Perfeito takes its premise outside Portugal.
