Continuing its collaboration with Reflora, an environmental startup that measures, reduces, and offsets the carbon footprint of its partners, Capítulo Perfeito measured the event’s carbon emissions and offset its environmental impact through a green investment.

Specifically, the Reflora team calculated the championship’s carbon emissions (in tCO₂e), allowing the organizers to purchase carbon credits proportional to the emissions generated and subsequently invest that amount in a carefully selected environmental and community intervention program.

The project operates in the Amazon Rainforest, preventing deforestation of large areas, protecting endangered species, and supporting local communities through health, education, and employment initiatives — a tangible step towards a greener, more responsible Capítulo.

“By bringing the world’s best tube riders to Portugal from all corners of the globe, we were aware that our carbon footprint would be significant. As an event that takes place in the ocean, sustainability is part of Capítulo Perfeito powered by Billabong’s DNA, and it therefore became imperative to offset the carbon emissions generated and find compensatory ways to help preserve the planet and the oceans,” said Rui Costa, the event’s organizer.

Through its ongoing support of the Envira Project (Reflora), Capítulo Perfeito reinforces its commitment to sustainability and to the preservation of our planet.

In its 2025 edition, Capítulo Perfeito joined forces with the “Associação de Saúde Mental Olhar”, an institution that supports people facing emotional vulnerability and promotes mental well-being.

To support this cause, we launched a special collection featuring a T-shirt that celebrates the 10 editions of Capítulo Perfeito — a true piece of history that tells the story of 10 years of the event and of Portuguese surfing.

A simple yet meaningful way to celebrate surf and care for the community, with 50% of sales proceeds donated directly to the association. 

Each sponsor was invited to plant a tree at the Sponsors Green Point, located within the championship venue — a symbolic action aimed at raising awareness among everyone present about the importance of protecting the environment.

In the end, all the trees were donated to a school in Carcavelos and Parede.

Sponsors and partners were encouraged to minimize the use of banners and other promotional materials, which were collected after the event and sent to 3C’s (Comunidades Criativas de Cascais) for recycling and reuse in products such as cushions, wallets, and covers. This practice supported economic circularity and reduced environmental impact.

During the event, all waste was properly separated for recycling. Water dispensers were provided, and athletes used reusable bottles to encourage refilling practices. Wooden cutlery and cardboard packaging were used in dining areas, while surplus food was donated to minimize waste and promote sustainable eating.
