Trials presented by UF Carcavelos Parede in Memory of Dapin ON for Thursday 

This Thursday (January 16), the Trials presented by UF Carcavelos Parede are taking place at Carcavelos Beach in Cascais. The event honors João Alexandre “Dapin,” an iconic Carcavelos surfer who passed away in November 2021 at the age of 55.

Local starts Francisco Mittermayer, João Moreira, João Kopke, Bruno Mendonça, Miguel Kilford, Salvador Vala, Santiago Graça and António Carvalho “Lacrau” are going head-to-head for a spot in the Capitulo Perfeito powered by Billabong, where one of them will be joining the 14 other contenders already confirmed: Aritz Aranburu, Balaram Stack, Bruno Santos, Clay Marzo, Craig Anderson, Noa Deane, Noah Beschen, Rob Machado, João Maria Mendonça, Miguel Blanco, Nic von Rupp, Pedro Boonman, and Tiago Stock.

The last spot in the Heat Draw will be a last-minute appointment allowing contest directors to keep an eye on the season’s best performances and address a last-minute invitation to a world-class tube wizard – the Performance Wildcard.

Apart from Carcavelos gnarly tubes, there’ll be a 50.000 EUR prize money in dispute, plus a special trophy for the most committed surfer, named after the late Brazilian surfer and Capitulo Perfeito’s former challenger Ricardo dos Santos.

Also, for the first time in the history of Capitulo Perfeito powered by Billabong, a highly restricted group of female Portuguese surfers are also taking part in the competition. Francisca Veselko, Yolanda Hopkins, Mafalda Lopes and Camila Cardoso will be given license to roam on the best day of the European winter featuring a much-expected tube duel – a Special Women Heat – taking place between the Semis and the Final.
