Capitulo Perfeito powered by Billabong on yellow alert

The wait for perfect waves might come to an end with forecast indicating several solid swells starting this weekend

The organization of Capitulo Perfeito powered by Billabong has put the event on yellow alert today, with forecast indicating several solid swells and favorable winds in the coming days.

Organizers are eyeing the forecast specifically for this weekend, in which a strong West swell and light to moderate offshore winds are expected. However, event organizer Rui Costa and contest director Miguel Fortes remain available to consider other swells that could hit Portugal throughout next week. If they decide to go ahead with the event this weekend, there’ll be two days left to make the official call for the competition at Carcavelos Beach, the heavy sand bottom located 20 kms away from Lisbon, which will hold the event for the sixth time in its history.

“We are keeping an eye on several swells that will grace our coast in the coming days”, says Rui Costa. “The forecast indicates everything we are looking for: large West swells, which usually generate massive waves at Carcavelos Beach, and North winds, which help provide the perfect barrels this contest needs. One of these swells will arrive this weekend. We are following the forecast in detail, knowing that we have until Wednesday or Thursday to make the call if we consider that this swell will allow us to fulfill the promise of having the best surfers in the world on the best waves that Portugal has to offer”, concludes.

Anthony Walsh (AUS), Aritz Aranburu (SP), Balaram Stack (USA), Bruno Santos (BRA), Dylan Graves (PR), Francisca Veselko (PRT), João Maria Mendonça (PRT), Michael February (ZA), Nathan Florence (HAW), Nic von Rupp (PRT), Pedro Boonman (PRT), Rob Machado (USA), Salvador Vala (PRT), Tiago Pires (PRT), Tiago Stock (PRT) and William Alliotti (FRA) remain on stand-by, as they will all be given less than 72 hours to come to Carcavelos in time for the competition.

Surfers will go head-to-head for a 40.000€ prize money plus 8.500€ in performance prizes.
