Capítulo Perfeito stays true to excellence and adjusts global schedule
The event postpones the competition in Carcavelos and reshapes the international line-ups to preserve its global standing, prioritise the surfers, and safeguard the audience experience.
Cascais, March 31, 2026 – The 12th annual Cascais Capitulo Perfeito powered by Billabong has just announced new updates across its events in Carcavelos, Mozambique, and Indonesia.
Despite the exceptional extension of the waiting period for the flagship event in Carcavelos, which ends today (March 31), and following an unusual winter, the ideal conditions never came together to run the event at the level of excellence that has defined Capitulo Perfeito since day one. Marked by a run of storms throughout January, this winter brought a rare scenario: plenty of swell on offer, but never the right alignment of wind and ocean to produce the hollow, draining tubes that define Capitulo Perfeito’s DNA.
Given these conditions, the organization remains true to its philosophy: not running the event just for the sake of the calendar, but making sure every edition lives up to the expectations of fans and the international prestige the event has built over the years.
More than just a contest, Capitulo Perfeito stands out precisely because of its unpredictability. The event’s complete reliance on ocean conditions is what sets it apart and gives it a truly unique place in the global surf scene, creating a level of anticipation and authenticity that simply wouldn’t exist in a fixed-date format. At the same time, the organization reinforces its responsibility to protect and elevate two internationally recognized Portuguese brands — Capitulo Perfeito and Carcavelos —ensuring they only come to life when the natural stage delivers.
With that in mind, the waiting period in Carcavelos has been reset to run from November 1 to December 15. As a one-off adjustment, and as a commitment to the invited surfers, the four finalists from the 2026 edition will receive wildcards into the 13th Capitulo Perfeito in Carcavelos in 2027, securing direct entry into the main event next year. This is an exception to the usual format, where only the winner earns a wildcard.
Rui Costa, Capitulo Perfeito event promotor, explains: “If financial return was the priority, we would have run the event already. But when you’re dealing with brands like Capitulo Perfeito and Carcavelos, known worldwide for the quality of their tubes, it’s crucial to protect that reputation and only go ahead when conditions hit a true level of excellence. This is a unique event, driven by the unpredictability of the ocean and a non-negotiable commitment to perfection. Here, the waves call the shots, and this time, they didn’t deliver the magic we’ve seen over the past 11 editions. We’re fully committed to waiting for the perfect day, which will for sure come between November and December.”

Nuno Piteira Lopes, Mayor of Cascais, also supports the decision: “Capitulo Perfeito is more than a surf contest: it’s an international showcase of Cascais and Carcavelos as world-class destinations. The decision to postpone the event, which we fully support, reflects responsibility and respect for the unique identity of this competition. Protecting the quality and reputation of Capitulo Perfeito is ultimately about safeguarding a brand that projects our region to the world. In Cascais, we don’t just want big events — we want the best ones, so that every experience, like Cascais itself, lasts a lifetime.”
Hélio Branco, Marketing Manager at Despomar/Billabong Portugal, adds: “In events like this, unpredictability is part of the deal, and that’s exactly what makes surfing so special. As main sponsor, Billabong fully supports the decision to wait for the right conditions that make Capitulo Perfeito a global benchmark in surf.”
Defending champion Cam Richards also backs the call to move the event to later in 2026: “Super stoked we still have a chance to run the event this year. Was a tough season for swell, but they made a great call by not running. There really was never the day we were looking for. So rad to be part of an event that puts the surfers at the top priority. Just going to make the event that much more special and exciting when it does run!”
Mozambique window extended and new line-up confirmed
The Mozambique event has also been adjusted, with its waiting period extended through April 30, after Praia da Barra failed to deliver perfect tubes during the original window (January 12 to March 30).
Additionally, due to the postponement of the Carcavelos event — which prevents the timely qualification of 2026 finalists — the Mozambique line-up will now feature the four finalists from the 2025 edition: Cam Richards, Noah Beschen, Balaram Stack, and Pedro Calado. They’ll be joined by local wildcards Junior and Mini Cho, international wildcard Ned Hart, and one final international wildcard to be announced at call time. The winner of the Mozambique event will take home €10,000 by Cascais and earn a direct wildcard into the main event in Carcavelos in 2027.
In Indonesia, the same line-up structure will apply, with the four finalists from 2025 included. The winner will also receive €10,000 by Cascais and a wildcard entry into Capitulo Perfeito 2027 in Carcavelos.
Carlos Mamudo, from Mozambique’s National Tourism Institute (INATUR), states: “Hosting an event like this is a strong statement of Mozambique’s potential as a top destination for surf and adventure tourism. An event like this can’t be rushed — it requires precision, patience, and a true commitment to excellence. More than just running an event, our goal is to create unforgettable moments for surfers, partners, and fans, making the wait for the perfect alignment between nature and organization absolutely worthwhile.”
Mara Chiu, Marketing Director for Corona Mozambique, adds: “Good things take time. Since we want perfect conditions for this event and to deliver the best outdoor experience for Corona fans, we fully support the decision to extend the waiting period through the end of the month.”
Isabel Matias, Head Manager at Sentidos Beach Retreat, reinforces: “Capitulo Perfeito is not just a name — it’s a commitment to excellence. We understand and value the decision to extend the event window, waiting for the ocean to deliver the right conditions for a contest that lives up to that promise. We’re excited to wait for the best waves, because we believe the extraordinary deserves its perfect moment.”
More than just sticking to dates, Cascais Capitulo Perfeito powered by Billabong once again shows that its priority is creating truly unique moments in world surfing. With decisions aligned with its core values, the event reinforces its global positioning while staying true to its promise: to deliver a show worthy of its reputation, every single time.
