Perfect Chapter powered by Billabong ON for Tuesday

The 9th annual Perfect Chapter powered by Billabong, the original one-day, invite-only tuberiding competition taking place in Portugal every year, just got green-light for Tuesday, February 28th.

The event is bringing together 16 world-class tube riders (a mix of celebrated tube hounds and former CT warriors) at Carcavelos Beach, the heavy sand-bottom surf spot located 15 mins from Lisbon. Forecast indicates consistent 8ft sets and light offshore winds, offering the kind of conditions the event is internationally known for.

The competition will have a 7 am first official call with Adrian Buchan (AUS), Adriano de Souza (BRA), Aritz Aranburu (ES), Balaram Stack (USA), Bruno Santos (BRA), Clay Marzo (HAW), João Maria Mendonça (PRT), Michael February (ZA), Miguel Blanco (PRT), Nathan Hedge (AUS), Nic von Rupp (PRT), Pedro Boonman (PRT), Salvador Vala (PRT), Tiago Pires (PRT), Torrey Meister (HAW) and João Moreira (PRT) filling in the heat draw.

Scored solely upon their tube riding skills, the 16 men will be chasing a 35.000€ global prize money including 10.000€ in performance awards: Best Tube by 58SURF (2500€), Best Score by Go Chill (2000€), Best Portuguese Surfer by Joaquim Chaves Saúde (1000€) and Worst Wipeout by Nixon (500€).

Adding a little spice to the competition, this year there’ll be a special trophy – and a 2000€ check by Madpizza – to the first three-time champ in the history of the Perfect Chapter, leading up to a dramatic battle between the only two surfers who have won the event twice in the past: Aritz Aranburu, winner in 2016 and 2022, and Nic von Rupp, the 2013 and 2014 champ.

Last but not least, the Ricardo dos Santos Special Trophy is honoring the most committed contender according to tuberiding virtuosity and raw courage criteria, on top of a 1500€ check by Corona.

As a side event to the main competition, a special heat is scheduled to take place between the semis and the final featuring the six Portuguese young surfers from the New Generation category (under 17): Francisco Mittermayer, Martim Fortes, Matias Canhoto, Salvador Vala, Santiago Graça and Tiago Faria. The winner is taking home a 500€ check by Globalis and a 7 day stay coupon by the Hiddenbay Resort in the Mentawai.
