In memory of João Alexandre, “Dapin”

The year 2022 will also be marked by the history of this event with the entry of a local wild-card (Carcavelos), through a trials championship.

This trials championship will take place tomorrow, February 18, at 9:00 am, on Carcavelos beach. Promoted by UF Carcavelos and Parede, it will give the possibility to eight surfers from Praia de Carcavelos to compete for a place in the main event of the Perfect Chapter.

The trials of the Perfect Chapter powered by Billabong also have a symbolic importance for the event, as it will be a tribute to João Alexandre – “Dapin” – iconic surfer from Carcavelos, who died on November 30, 2021 during the race, at the age of 55 .

In addition to being a living legend of Praia de Carcavelos, where the Perfect Chapter powered by Billabong takes place, “Dapin” was also the first Portuguese surfer to compete internationally. He was runner-up in Europe in 1991 and emigrated to Australia in pursuit of his dream of making a professional surfing career.

A ceremony is planned for the organizers and surfers present.
