Capitulo Perfeito powered by Billabong sets up a tuberiding competition in Indonesia featuring Portugal’s young surfing prospects
Surf fans around the world will be challenged to vote for the best tuberider in a side event that marks the first step towards the internationalization of Capitulo Perfeito
CASCAIS (August 20, 2024) – The young surfers listed on the New Generation category for the 10th edition of Capitulo Perfeito powered by Billabong – the tuberiding event that saw Portuguese rising start Tiago Stock take the win last February at Carcavelos Beach (Cascais, Portugal) – are about to embark on a trip to the Mentawai Islands, where they’ll be competing for the best waves in one of the most sought-after tuberiding destinations in the world.
The strike mission to Indo is taking place from August 27th to September 3rd with the support of Billabong and the Hiddenbay Resort (hiddenbayresortmentawais.com), one of the highest-rated resorts in the Playground area. Portuguese surfing prospects Salvador Vala, Jaime Veselko, Martim Fortes, Salvador Catarino and Simão Prazeres will be joined by Frenchman Inigo Madina (as a replacement for Matias Canhoto), Australian Sid Englert (Tracks magazine appointee), and local young surfer Joaquin At-Thariq, as they’ll be surfing Kandui, Rifles, Hideway, Bankvauts, and some other secret spots very well known to the resort’s staff.
Throughout the week, the young flock will be filmed and scored by a jury featuring Capitulo Perfeito organizers, a reporter from Tracks, former Capitulo Perfeito champion Anthony Walsh, and Hiddenbay Resort’s ambassador Vinicius Pereira (cousin of the late Ricardo dos Santos, who lends his name to Capitulo Perfeito’s most iconic performance award). At the end of each journey, both the jury and the surfers will deliberate on the best barrel of the day, while challenging surf fans around the world to also take part in choosing the daily winner – every evening, the best performances will be posted on Capitulo Perfeito’s Instagram account (instagram.com/capitulo_perfeito), where the community will have 24 hours to vote for the best barrel.
At the end of the trip, the community’s preferences combined with the surfers’ picks and the jury's deliberations will determine the top tuberider of the week, who will be crowned with a 1500 EUR prize money.
“This event is the culmination of our efforts to encourage the new generation to search and surf perfect waves. In 2020, when we added the New Generation category to our Surfers List, we wanted to give Portuguese young surfers the opportunity to win a surftrip to the Mentawai while having an international platform to also show themselves and be close to more experienced surfers. This year, it made perfect sense to do something special as a way of celebrating Capitulo Perfeito’s 10th edition. With the help of Billabong and the Hiddenbay Resort, we were able to put this event together for the kids, culminating four years of work for the new generation”, Rui Costa, Capitulo Perfeito’s organizer, said.

This trip belongs to a series of side events promoted by the organization of Capitulo Perfeito powered by Billabong as part of the celebrations of the event’s 10th edition, including a soon to be announced photography exhibition, an exclusive apparel collection and a documentary.
