Capitulo Perfeito powered by Billabong takes Portugal’s young surfing prospects to the Mentawai Islands

CASCAIS (February 8, 2024) – The young surfers listed on the New Generation category for this year’s Capitulo Perfeito edition were challenged by the organization to embark on a trip to the Mentawai Islands, where they’ll be competing for the best waves in one of the most sought-after tube riding destinations in the world.

The trip will take place between August 27th and September 3rd in an initiative powered by Billabong, Capitulo Perfeito’s long-time main sponsor, the Hiddenbay Resort, one of the top-rated surfing resorts in the Mentawai Islands, and Tracks magazine, the event’s media partner in Australia. The Portuguese young guns will be joined by one of Australia’s hottest young surfing prospects, who was invited to join the strike mission to Indo after a consultation with the Tracks team.

Alongside Salvador Vala, the U-18 Portuguese surfer chosen by the fans to compete in Capitulo Perfeito X, Jaime Veselko, Martim Fortes, Salvador Catarino and Simão Prazeres are also attending a tube riding boot camp in the Mentawai’s, where they’ll be joined by Sid Englert, a 15-year-old surfer from Western Australia nominated by Tracks.

Throughout the week, the grommets flock will be filmed and scored by a jury featuring Capitulo Perfeito organizers and a reporter from Tracks, who will deliberate on the best tube of each day. At the same time, the young surfers will point out their favorite rides and post them on Capitulo Perfeito’s Instagram account, where the community will be challenged to vote for the best performance daily. At the end of the trip, the community’s preferences combined with the jury's deliberations will determine the top tube rider of the week, who will receive a 1500 EUR prize money.

The six surfers listed on the New Generation category are taking part in a special heat when the Capitulo Perfeito X is called ON, going head-to-head for a 1000 EUR check from cidade_fm, a 500€ travel voucher from Globalis and a 7-day double stay at the Hiddenbay Resort. As the most voted surfer, Salvador Vala will make up the competition’s original heat draw alongside some of the most talented and celebrated tube riders in the world today.
